Ukrainian seaports increase cargo turnover by 15% in January 2017

According to the online data of the Ukrainian Seaports Authority in January 2017 the volume of cargo handling in Ukrainian seaports reached 10 million 032 thousand tons, which is 14.6% more than in the similar period of 2016.

Export cargo handling totaled 8 million 094 thousand tons (30.3% growth as compared to 2016), import — 1 million 423 thousand tons (9% decrease compared with the same period in 2016).

Transit cargo handling amounted to 475 thousand tons (50% of the previous year’s indicators). Cabotage totaled to 39.3 thousand tons.

Containers handling increased by 30.5% during the reporting period and amounted to 48,911 TEU.

The state port operators owned by the Ministry of Infrastructure handled 1 million 825 thousand tons (18.2% of total volume). Other port operators (mostly privately owned) handled 8 million 206 thousand tons (81.8% of total). In particular, the port operators (mostly privately owned) at USPA’s berths handled 4 million 170 thousand tons (41.6% of total).

Almost twofold growth was registered in specialized seaport “Oktiabrsk” (+86.6%). Furthermore, the growth of turnover showed the ports of Kherson (+33.1%), “Yuzhnyi” (+20.9%), Odessa (+20.4%), Illichivsk (+16.3%) and Mykolaiv (+14.8%).
