Report: EUKOR Car Carrier Stopped by Libyan Forces

2017-02-21

The 2013-built car carrier Morning Compass has been seized by Libyan militants and escorted to the country’s Ras Al Hilal port, according to local media.

The vessel, working under a charter deal with Korean shipping firm EUKOR Car Carriers, was on its way from South Korea’s Incheon port to Libyan port of Misurata when it was stopped.

Data provided by VesselsValue shows that the 6,500 CEU carrier was still anchored at the Ras Al Hilal port yesterday.

Media reports indicate that the vessel, which is currently carrying some 5000 cars, is crewed by twelve Filipino seafarers.

Citing an official, the Libyan News Agency (LANA) informed that the ship was intercepted because it was sailing in a no-entry military zone.

World Maritime News contacted the vessel’s charterer for more details on the matter, however, the company is yet to reply.
