Car Carrier with Over 10,000-Vehicle Capacity Begins Sea Trials
On March 31, the Hull No. 1 of the 10,800 CEU LNG dual-fuel Pure Car and Truck Carrier built by CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International for HMM set sail for sea trials. This is currently the world's first 10,000-vehicle-class dual-fuel car carrier under construction globally.

It is reported that the vessel has an overall length of 230 meters, a molded breadth of 40 meters, a structural draft of 10.5 meters, and a service speed of approximately 19 knots, achieving a perfect balance between efficient transport and stable sailing. The ship features a 14-deck garage design, capable of flexibly loading a diverse range of vehicles including electric cars, hydrogen-powered vehicles, and heavy trucks, with a maximum single-vessel capacity of 10,800 vehicles. Based on a standard car length of 5 meters, if the loaded vehicles were placed end-to-end, the line would stretch over 50 kilometers.
The vessel is equipped with a dual-fuel propulsion system using both fuel oil and LNG, and is configured with a shaft generator, allowing it to generate electricity while underway, thereby achieving the goals of energy saving and emission reduction. The ship boasts excellent environmental performance and complies with the IMO Tier III emission standards.

According to relevant officials from Guangzhou Shipyard International, car carriers are high-tech, high-value-added vessel types characterized by significant construction difficulty and high technical content. Firstly, construction requires extensive use of thin plates, and the shipyard's construction team successfully overcame the challenge of controlling thin-plate deformation. Secondly, the vessel incorporates numerous roll-on/roll-off equipment with a high degree of mechanization. While such equipment previously relied heavily on imports, it has now been fully localized. The completion and sea trials of this 10,000-vehicle carrier mark Guangzhou Shipyard International's full mastery of the construction technology for this vessel type, maintaining a leading position in this niche market.
