China's largest domestically built LNG carrier delivered
According to a report by China Central Television (CCTV), at 10:50 a.m. on April 26, the "Georgetown," the country’s first domestically designed and built 180,000‑cubic‑meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, was delivered at the China Merchants Heavy Industry dock in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. The vessel then slowly departed from the Yangtze River’s Nantong section and set sail for Singapore.

Built by the China Merchants Shipyard Haimen Base, the carrier measures 298.8 meters in length and 48 meters in width. It is powered by a dual‑fuel low‑speed propulsion system and features low boil‑off rates and high environmental performance. With the largest tank capacity of any LNG carrier ever built in China, the "Georgetown" represents a major breakthrough in the country’s high‑end clean‑energy shipbuilding sector.
LNG carriers are specialized vessels designed to transport liquefied natural gas at an ultra‑low temperature of ‑163°C. Due to their extremely demanding design and construction requirements, they are regarded as one of the "three pearls on the crown of shipbuilding," alongside aircraft carriers and luxury cruise liners. With the delivery of the "Georgetown," China now has five shipyards capable of delivering LNG carriers, raising the nation’s overall construction capabilities to a world‑class level.
