Lloyd's Register Set to Welcome New Chairman
The Lloyd's Register Group and the Lloyd's Register Foundation announced on June 9 the appointment of Matthias Altendorf as the new Chairman of the Board. He will formally take over when current Chairman Thomas Thune Andersen completes his term in June 2027.

Matthias Altendorf brings nearly four decades of senior management experience, having served in both executive and non-executive director roles at a number of prominent organisations. He had a long career with Endress+Hauser, serving as its Chief Executive Officer from 2014 to 2023 before becoming Chairman of the company's Supervisory Board. He also founded Bionic Leadership, an initiative dedicated to developing people-centric management models and exploring evolutionary approaches to leadership and economic-social systems.
With his deep industrial leadership expertise, digital technology proficiency, and strong focus on customer needs, Matthias Altendorf will support Lloyd's Register in further integrating its classification services, digital solutions, and advisory capabilities—covering the full dimensions of vessels, voyages, and people—to address the evolving challenges facing the maritime industry.
Nick Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Lloyd's Register, stated: "I am delighted to welcome Matthias to LR. He has demonstrated truly inspiring global leadership. With his broad and diverse experience, Matthias will bring tremendous value as we continue to grow and refine our services, helping us better serve the needs of our clients and colleagues across a rapidly changing maritime industry."
Matthias Altendorf commented: "For more than 260 years, Lloyd's Register has played a vital role in maritime safety for shipowners and the wider shipping industry through technical expertise, independent assurance, and innovation. I look forward to building on this invaluable heritage and supporting Lloyd's Register's mission with clarity, courage, and a sense of responsibility."
