On April 8, the naming ceremony for China's first domestically built 180,000 cubic meter LNG carrier, Celsius Georgetown, constructed by China Merchants Industry (Haimen Base), was held at the Haimen base. This marks a significant technological breakthrough for Jiangsu Province in the key field of high-end shipbuilding and represents a milestone in enhancing the core competitiveness of the marine industry.

LNG carriers, alongside aircraft carriers and luxury cruise ships, are collectively known as the "jewels in the crown" of the shipbuilding industry due to their high technical complexity and substantial added value. The newly named Celsius Georgetown is the first vessel in a series ordered by Celsius Tanker from CMHI-JS.

The vessel has an overall length of approximately 298.8 meters, a molded breadth of 48 meters, and a molded depth of 26.5 meters. It boasts a service speed of 19.5 knots and a cruising range of 22,000 nautical miles. The cargo containment system utilizes the GTT MARK III Flex membrane technology, with four cargo tanks providing a total capacity of 180,000 cubic meters. The vessel achieves a maximum filling limit of 99.4% and a boil-off rate of less than 0.085% per day, making it compatible with major LNG terminals worldwide. The vessel is equipped with dual main engines, multiple generator sets, and a reliquefaction plant, enabling it to maintain tank pressure under extreme summer climate conditions and achieve zero cargo loss. This represents a vivid embodiment of the green, low-carbon, and intelligent development of the shipping industry.

It is reported that throughout the entire process—from construction commencement, undocking and launching, riverine sea trials, to completion and naming—the Nantong Maritime Safety Administration continuously optimized its full-process regulatory services covering ship construction, sea trials, and registration. Comprehensive support was provided at critical stages, including confirmation of key dates, onboard supervision during sea trials, and on-site VCA inspections, thereby actively fostering a convenient, efficient, fair, and transparent port and shipping business environment.
