Guangzhou Shipyard International Secures Major Newbuilding Order from Evergreen Marine
On May 14, Evergreen Marine announced its latest shipbuilding and asset allocation plan, revealing that it will order five 24,000 TEU-class LNG dual-fuel ultra-large container vessels. This move marks Evergreen’s accelerated efforts to布局 (layout/strategize) a low-carbon fleet strategy, balancing fleet renewal with financial restructuring, while simultaneously optimizing its container assets and vessel usage structure.

According to the announcement, Evergreen Marine has commissioned Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) to build these five ultra-large container ships. The unit price for each vessel ranges from $262 million to $295 million, bringing the total investment to approximately $1.31 billion to $1.475 billion. Designed with LNG dual-fuel capability, these vessels align with the current green fuel transition trend in the shipping industry and will further strengthen Evergreen Marine’s large-scale capacity structure on major ocean-going trade routes.

The latest data from Alphaliner shows that Evergreen Marine currently ranks seventh among the top 100 global liner companies by capacity. The company operates a total of 240 vessels, including 165 owned ships and 75 chartered-in vessels, with a total capacity reaching 1.989 million TEU. This new order will further expand Evergreen’s order book and increase the proportion of green vessels in its fleet.
