Following the successful signing of a construction order for six 4,800 TEU container ships with Shanghai Changshun Shipping, Guoyu Shipbuilding landed another major contract on May 15, signing a deal for 6+4 units of 6,150 TEU container vessels.

An industry insider estimates that the unit price of these 6,150 TEU ships will exceed $70 million, with deliveries expected between 2027 and 2028. These vessels will become the largest containerships in Shanghai Changshun's fleet.

As for the previously ordered 4,800 TEU series, Shanghai Changshun plans to take delivery of two of them in August and November of this year, with the remaining four to be delivered in 2027.

Clarksons data shows that Shanghai Changshun currently owns six vessels—two Ultramax bulk carriers, two Handymax bulk carriers, and two 2,838 TEU container ships built in 2023.

The Yangzhou-based shipyard had exited the market in 2016 due to financial difficulties but resumed shipbuilding operations in 2023. According to Clarksons data, in addition to the latest 6,150 TEU order from Shanghai Changshun, Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding currently has a total of 44 vessels in its orderbook.

These orders comprise 20 container ships (with capacities ranging from 3,100 TEU to 5,680 TEU), 10 MR2 product tankers, and two handy-size chemical/product tankers.

Over half of the yard's orders come from domestic shipowners, while it is also building vessels for ConBulk Shipping, Chartworld Shipping, Super Eco-Tankers, and MSC.
