Eight Vessels! CMA CGM Selects This Private Chinese Shipyard
CMA CGM is continuing to press ahead with its massive fleet expansion programme, having signed a contract with Hengli Heavy Industry for the construction of eight 6,000 TEU newbuildings. The move not only further expands CMA CGM's own capacity reserves but also takes its newbuilding orderbook—already leading among global liner companies—to an even higher level.
For CMA CGM, this signing represents another significant step in its aggressive fleet expansion. To meet future market demand and the requirements of environmental regulations, the company has invested heavily in both conventionally fuelled and alternative-fuel vessels, continuously optimising its fleet structure. According to the latest statistics from Alphaliner, CMA CGM currently operates a fleet of more than 730 vessels and has over 150 newbuildings on order.

In fact, CMA CGM's recent shipbuilding activities extend well beyond this. In addition to the Hengli Heavy order, the company has also concluded a number of other major newbuilding contracts, including an order for ten 22,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships at Dalian Shipbuilding and six 1,700 TEU LNG dual-fuel vessels at India's Cochin Shipyard. These orders span vessel types from feeder ships to ultra-large containerships, underscoring CMA CGM's comprehensive capacity upgrade plans.
Shipping analysts note that CMA CGM's large-scale ordering spree fully reflects the strategic positioning of leading liner companies regarding medium- to long-term market capacity supply and the green transformation trend.
