It was only three years ago that Taiwan’s Yang Ming Marine Transport made its first tentative steps in the Australian trades, but now it has decided to ramp its presence Down Under. It has formed Yang Ming (Australia) with agent Inchcape Shipping Services to boost its presence in the country. At the moment Australia is served on two of Yang Ming’s services, one via China and Korea and the other via Southeast Asia. With mainline trades suffering overcapacity, containerlines this year, including Yang Ming, are seeking to develop niche markets. Inchcape has been Yang Ming’s agent in Australia since the line started making calls there in 2010.
