Hong Kong: Hutchison Port Holdings Trust (HPH Trust) today announced that it has been proactively working on solutions to the ongoing port worker strike at its subsidiary Hong Kong International Terminals Limited (HIT).

Port workers and their supporters have gathered at HIT since Friday claiming against stevedoring contractors for a pay rise.

HPH Trust claims that the stevedoring contractors provide services to many terminals in the Kwai Tsing port including HIT and the port workers are not employees of HIT, however, it has formed a special task force to oversee the development of the situation, and contingency procedures have been activated.

HPH Trust said in a statement it has been pro-actively monitoring the situation as well as encouraging the contractors of HIT to engage in dialogue with their workers to bring an amicable resolution to the situation and it is working closely with the authorities to ensure the safety of the personnel and maintain the order at the terminals.
