INTTRA Announces May’s Top Carriers in Ocean Shipping Information Quality

2014-06-20

INTTRA, the world’s largest multi-carrier e-commerce network for ocean shipping, yesterday announced the May results of its Ocean Shipping Information Quality program, revealing exclusive insights into the quality of carrier data provided by the global containerized shipping industry. The program, launched earlier this year, enables carriers to easily identify where data issues exist in order to drive the systematic improvement of shipment information quality.

The results identify May’s top five carriers providing the highest quality shipment data. They are: 1. APL 2. CSAV Group 3. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) 4. United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) 5. Hapag-Lloyd

With this month’s top five listing, CSAV Group continues its rapid rise, reaching number two as its data improved by more than 13 percent since January 2014. Rankings and figures are derived from analysis into shipment status events matched with the transport plan provided to shippers using the INTTRA network. This provides carriers on INTTRA’s e-shipping platform with a global view into data quality measured by completeness of information using the specific event milestones that shippers require for each shipment.

The ability to deliver high-quality data is essential to improving efficiencies in the shipment supply chain, reducing operational costs, and enhancing customer service across the industry. In addition to providing carriers with a better way to manage and improve their data quality, the Ocean Shipping Information Quality program provides shippers, freight forwarders and logistics providers with the accurate, timely data required to effectively view the status of their shipment, and communicate shipment progression with clients in order to maintain high customer satisfaction.

May’s report continued the trend of industry-wide improvement in shipment completeness across all carriers. Since the program was launched in September 2013, the number of shipments containing container status event messages measured has improved by 12 percent overall. This will impact approximately 2.3 million shipments that would have been incomplete throughout the year(1), but will now be complete as a result of INTTRA’s initiative — resulting in a more efficient, and cost-effective process for carriers and shippers alike.

The program — comprised of a monthly carrier scorecard, the INTTRA Insights Platform for Visibility, and INTTRA Ocean IQ professional service engagement — was created in conjunction with ocean carriers to provide them with a standardized measurement system for global shipment data completeness, accuracy and timeliness. This provides all participating carriers with a monthly scorecard, as well as their carrier ranking report based on the information collected. For more details on data quality, visit here.
