China's non-manufacturing activity slightly recovered in August, with the sector's purchasing managers' index (PMI) rebounding to 54.4, official data said on Wednesday.

The non-manufacturing PMI, compiled by the National Bureau of Statistics and the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, tracks activity in sectors including construction, software, aviation, railway transport and real estate.

The reading stopped the losing streak since June and continued to stay above the 50-threshold that demarcates expansion and contraction. China's non-manufacturing PMI slipped to 54.2 in July.
