2014-09-08

Bureau Veritas (BV) passed 100m gt of classed tonnage in the first half of 2014, totalling 10,700 vessels.

The figure represents a doubling of BV’s classed fleet over the last eight years, including bulk carriers, tankers, LNG carriers, container ships and offshore vessels, alongside a “major cruise ship portfolio” the classification society said.

BV evp and head of its marine & offshore division Philippe Donche-Gay highlighted “increasing transfers of fleets of modern vessels to BV class.”

“It is an important part of our strategy that we are present in every type of shipping so that we can deploy our experience and competence to help owners with any type of ship or offshore development,” added Donche-Gay.

Meanwhile ceo Didier Michaud-Daniel said “Our expertise and innovation in the maritime industry were the founding blocks for the creation of the Bureau Veritas Group. We are proud of the long-term relationships that we have built with our clients based on mutual trust."
