Shanghai container volumes fall in November

Shanghai port’s container throughput fell for the first time this year in November on a year-on-year comparison, according to figures from Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

In November, the world’s busiest port moved 2.92m teu of box volumes, inching down 0.7% compared to 2.94m teu recorded in the same month of last year, data from SIPG showed.

Last month’s volumes also decreased by 3.2% compared to 3.02m teu handled in October.

In the first 11 months of 2014, the Chinese port of Shanghai posted a total throughput of 32.39m teu, up 4.8% from 30.91m teu recorded in the previous corresponding period.

The Chinese port is unlikely to beat last year’s total volumes of 36.62m teu with a shortfall of 4.24m teu up with only one more month left to go this year.
