China produced 330 million tonnes of coal in November, down 4.9 percent from the same month last year, an industry website reported on Wednesday, citing figures from the National Bureau of Statistics.

Coalstudy.com also said that January to November output fell 2.1 percent to 3.513 billion tonnes.

China’s oversupplied coal industry has been struggling with slowing demand from sectors like power and a campaign by Beijing to ease the country’s dependence on polluting fossil fuels.

Thermal power output from January to November has fallen 0.26 percent year-on-year, though overall generation levels rose 3.9 percent over the same period, driven by a 22-percent increase in hydropower production.
