RCL and MOL to start direct Thailand - Myanmar service

2015-04-07

Regional Container Lines (RCL) is linking two of its services up to create a direct service between Thailand and Myanmar.

RCL is linking up one of its Thailand Singapore strings with its existing Singapore – Yangon, which it runs with partner Mitsui OSK Lines. The combined rotation of the 21-day joint service will include Thai Prosperity Terminal (TPT) in Bangkok – Singapore – Yangon – Port Klang – Singapore – TPT.

RCL will contribute two vessels to the service and MOL one with the first departure on 29 April.

“There have traditionally been strong trading links between Thailand and Myanmar. Current imports to Myanmar from Thailand will in fact rank amongst the top three countries in Asia in container terms,” said Sumate Tanthuwanit, president of RCL.

“Our customers have asked us to provide weekly direct service between Thailand and Yangon and we feel that this is now the right time to do so, since the trade continues to grow strongly.”
