Ningbo Port’s former president investigated for corruption

China’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) has started investigations on alleged corruption activities by Xu Huajiang, former president of Ningbo Port.

In a brief statement on Monday, CCDI said Xu is investigated for “serious violation of the law”, which typically means corruption. It added that Xu is assisting with the investigation.

Xu’s stint at Ningbo Port was short as he was appointed in February last year but he resigned in March this year.

Last month, CCDI also started a probe on Gao Baoyu, president of Yingkou Port, for allegations of corruption.

The Chinese government has been taking a tough stance on corruption and there have been several cases of malpractices among shipping executives and investigations into state-owned shipping groups.

CCID has also recently investigated China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and China Shipping Group.
