Sand Carrier Collides With Fishing Vessel off Malyasia

A sand carrier from Cambodia collided with a fishing boat off Kuala Terengganu at about 10-20am on Monday.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Eastern Maritime Region Operations Director Yusof Ali said the vessel Venus, which was en route to Singapore, hit the fishing boat about 60nm northeast of Kuala Terengganu.

“From the latest received information, the crew members of the fishing boat were rescued by another boat. We have to track down the other boat now to discover the fate of the crew members,” said Yusof. According to boat documents, there should have been 30 crew onboard.He added that MMEA’s Pengawal 48 boat as well as the KM Sebatik and KM Segantang vessels had been dispatched to the location.

The Venus was still on location and was not damaged, he said.
