China’s Sinotrans Shipping has signed contracts with CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding for four 1,900 teu containerships.
Sinotrans said the “energy-saving” vessels were ordered at a price of $24.55m each, and were expected to be delivered in May, June, September and November 2017.
A 10% deposit has been placed by Sinotrans with the balance payable in four instalments.
Sinotrans said placing the order was down to the current relatively low construction cost. The energy-saving ships will enable the company to optimize the composition of its fleet while also expanding the capacity of its self-owned fleet to reduce ship chartering costs.
