Ship collides with bridge in Hong Kong

A vessel collided with the Tsing Ma Bridge bridge in Hong Kong earlier today, causing road and rail connections to be temporarily suspended, reports say.

Reports say a vessel, believed to be a barge, hit a column of Kap Shui Mun Bridge, which is linked to the Tsing Ma Bridge, at around 19:40hrs (local time), triggering the ship collision alarm.

Checks were conducted and the bridge was able to re-open two hours later. Road and rail links were also resumed.

The suspension bridge has the world’s ninth longest span and links Lantau Island with the rest of Hong Kong with a six-lane highway and the MTR railway, which is the only direction connection to the city’s airport.
