Deltamarin to design first LNG handysize bulker for ESL Shipping

2015-11-26

Deltamarin has signed a EUR2m ($2.1m) contract to design the world’s first LNG-powered handysize bulk carriers, the B.Delta26LNG, for Finnish shipowner ESL Shipping.

Set for construction at Sinotrans & CSC SBICO’s Qingshan Shipyard, the B.Delta26LNG features an LNG tank capacity of 400 cu m, and is equipped with dual-fuel main and auxiliary engines. The vessels will also be classed to DNV GL Ice Class 1a specifications, the concept having been proven in model tests.

The vessels are expected to be delivered at the beginning of 2018.

“The owner has closely participated in the design process in order to fully tailor-fit the ship to meet its trading requirements for the Baltic area,” said Deltamarin’s sales director Konstantinos Fakiolas. “For example, the optimised cargo handling and cargo hold arrangements have been developed together to ensure as efficient and flexible cargo loading as possible.”

“Deltamarin and ESL Shipping experts have worked together for two years to develop a ship concept, which takes a significant step by bringing commodity transportation into a new era of greener shipping,” said ESL Shipping md Mikki Koskinen.
