Car carrier holed in Storm Desmond collision

Panama-flagged car carrier City of Rotterdam was holed in its port bow after colliding ro-ro ferry Primula Seaways in the Humber estuary, UK, during 70mph winds.

Operated by Fairmont Shipping Canada, 5,000 dwt City of Rotterdam, built in 2011, was traversing the estuary on the east coast of the UK when it was caught up in Storm Desmond and collided with 10,407 dwt Primula Seaways ferry, which was carrying 25 people.

Despite the damage sustained, both vessels were able to dock safely at Immingham following the accident. Crews are currently being questioned as to the specifics of the collision.
