Singapore’s November container throughput drops 15.9%

Container throughput has fallen year-on-year in November for Singapore, the world’s second busiest port behind China’s Shanghai, according to preliminary estimates from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Box volumes moved last month were recorded at 2.4m teu, pointing to a 15.9% decline compared to 2.86m teu handled in November 2014.

On a month-on-month comparison, throughput also fell by 4% compared to 2.5m teu registered in October this year, MPA figures showed.

In the first 11 months of this year, Singapore posted a total throughput of 28.41m teu, a drop of 8.2% compared to 30.96m teu seen in the previous corresponding period.
