MAN Diesel & Turbo has won a contract from Sembcorp Marine to supply one of its biggest ever dual-fuel propulsion systems, with scrubbers, for a Semi-submersible Crane Vessel (NSCV) for Heerema Offshore Services.

Due for delivery in Q4 2018, MAN claims the vessel itself will be the first of its size to feature dual-fuel technology and, upon completion, will be the largest vessel of its kind globally, capable of compliance with IMO Tier III NOx requirements at all times, whether operating on MGO or LNG.

The scope of the contract comprises 12 four-stroke MAN 8L51/60DF ‘Dual-Fuel’ engines, each fitted with a MAN SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system, with all components due for delivery in Q1 2017. Total power generation potential reaches a huge 96 MW, which, MAN claims, is “one of the largest engine installations the world has ever seen aboard a single ship, With the exception of power barges.”
