Busan container throughput grows 4.1% in 2015

2016-01-15

South Korea’s Busan port has posted 19.45m teu of container throughput in 2015, an increase of 4.1% compared to 18.68m teu registered in 2014, according to figures from Busan Port Authority (BPA).

The year-on-year improvement, however, fell slightly short of BPA’s target of 19.5m teu due to the slowing growth of the global and domestic economies, the port authority stated.

Transhipment volumes accounted for 52% of the 2015 annual throughput. Last year was only the second year after 2014 that transhipment volumes accounted for more than 50% of the total throughput, marking the gradual rise of Busan as an important transhipment facility in Northeast Asia.
