HanJin Incheon Container Terminal (HJIT) at Incheon New Port, South Korea has started operations on Friday, according to Incheon Port Authority (IPA).

HJIT, one of two new terminals at Incheon New Port, is equipped with five rail mounted quayside cranes which can handle 22 container rows, container terminal yard of seven rows, and 14 automated rail mount gantry cranes.

The operational launch of HJIT means that the construction project of Incheon New Port has been completed since work started from 2007. Another terminal, SunKwang New Container Terminal (SNCT), opened in June 2015.

Yoo Chang-keun, president of IPA, believed that the port will achieve its target container throughput of 2.5m teu with the coming onstream of HJIT.

Hanjin Shipping’s 3,600-teu Hanjin Mexico has been scheduled as the first ship to call at HJIT on the afternoon of 18 March.
