Shanghai port box volumes register 2.4% rise in March

China’s Shanghai port has handled increased container throughput in March over the previous corresponding period, according to figures from Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

Box volumes moved in March were registered at 3.01m teu, representing an increase of 2.4% from 2.94m teu seen in the same month of 2015, SIPG figures showed.

Last month’s volumes also rose by 16.2% from 2.59m teu in February this year.

In the first quarter of 2016, Shanghai port recorded a total throughput of 8.54m teu, inching down by 1.5% from 8.67m teu in the same period of last year.
