K Line secures contract to ship steaming coal for Tenaga Nasional

Japan’s K Line has secured a long term contract to transport steaming coal for Malaysia’s Tenaga Nasional.

The job will be carried out by a joint venture company owning Malaysian-flagged panamax vessel with Halim Mazmin Group (HMG), K Line announced. HMG has businesses including ship owning, flight training academy and tourism.

The co-owned panamax vessel will transport 1.5m tonnes of steaming coal a year from Indonesia or South Africa or Australia to Malaysia for 10 years starting from September 2016.

A total of four Malaysian shipowning companies have won the term contracts from Tenaga Nasional’s tender, according to K Line.
