NASSCO Hands Over Constitution

2016-11-10

US-based shipbuilder General Dynamics NASSCO has delivered the Constitution, an ECO Class tanker, to SEA-Vista LLC, a partnership between SEACOR Holdings Inc. and Avista Capital Partners.

The 50,000 dwt ship was delivered during a signing ceremony at the company’s shipyard in San Diego on November 8, 2016.

The 610-foot-long Constitution is an LNG-conversion-ready product tanker with a 330,000 barrel cargo capacity.

In August 2016, NASSCO christened and launched the Constitution.

The Constitution represents the sixth ship in a series of eight eco-friendly tankers being built by the shipbuilder for two separate clients including SEA-Vista and American Petroleum Tankers (APT) and will be operated by US-based shipping company Seabulk Tankers.

The construction and the operation of the new ECO Class tankers are aligned with the Jones Act, requiring that ships carrying cargo between US ports are built in US shipyards.

The ships were designed by DSEC, a subsidiary of South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).
