Eagle Bulk Adds Another Ultramax Newbuilding

2016-11-16

Connecticut-headquartered operator of dry bulk ships Eagle Bulk Shipping has acquired a resale 64,000 dwt SDARI-64 Ultramax dry bulk vessel currently under construction at China’s Chengxi Shipyard.

The bulker, scheduled to be delivered to the company in January 2017, will be named M/V Singapore Eagle.

The move comes only a week after Eagle Bulk said it bought a 61,000 dwt Ultramax dry bulk vessel, to be named M/V Stamford Eagle, constructed at Nantong COSCO Kawasaki Heavy Industries Engineering (NACKS).

Including the acquisition of M/V Stamford Eagle, which was scheduled to join the company in November, the Eagle Bulk fleet will consist of 42 owned vessels.

Eagle Bulk said that Stamford Eagle is the first vessel acquisition for the company in more than 6 years and “reflects management’s renewed commitment to invest in a high-quality fleet renewal and growth strategy within the Supramax/Ultramax segment.”
