2017-03-07

A crewman aboard the Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier Evoikos Theo was medevaced from the ship on March 3 due to an illness, according to the US Coast Guard.

The 75,681 dwt vessel sent out a request for the medevac at around 7:15 p.m. while it was in Chesapeake Bay.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Air Station Elizabeth City, arrived on scene with Evoikos Theo just west of Cape Charles, and hoisted the man to the helicopter.

The seafarer was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk for treatment.

At the time, the 2000-built bulker was sailing from the port of Antwerp, Begium.

According to AIS data provided by MarineTraffic, the ship, operated by Greek shipowner Evripos Shipmanagement, is currently anchored off Norfolk.
