2017-03-22

The West lane of the Panama Canal’s Gatun Locks will be out of service on March 24 due to scheduled repairs at the site, according to an advisory released by the Canal Authority (ACP).

Namely, the lane is expected to be closed for 12 hours, beginning at 8 pm on Friday until 8 am on March 25, 2017 due to repairs on Miter Gate 31 and on Vehicular Bridge No. 3.

The ACP further informed that the same lane will be out of service on April 7 as the authority will conduct scheduled repairs on Miter Gate 32 and on Vehicular Bridge No. 4. The lane is expected to be closed for 12 hours, opening at 8 am on April 8.

As a result, and in accordance with the rules governing the Transit Reservation System, Condition 1.a for the Panamax Locks will be in effect on March 25 and on April 8, 2017.

The Just-In-Time (JIT) transit slots, as well as the booking slot available through the Auction Process, and the slots available for regular vessels less than 300 feet in LOA, will continue to be offered during these periods.
