Operational bridge teams should prepare to demonstrate compliance and competence across a range of navigational disciplines

London, 10 August 2017. Global Navigation Solutions (GNS), the maritime services group, is supporting seafarers during the upcoming Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Navigation Safety with advice, information and checklists that can help vessels successfully demonstrate compliance.

The Port State Control CIC will be the most comprehensive yet undertaken, with inspectors from the Paris MoU, Tokyo MoU, Black Sea MoU, Indian Ocean MoU and Vina del Mar commencing the programme of additional checks from 1 September 2017 and running for three months.

GNS is committed to helping shipping companies meet the enhanced inspections with a programme of information sharing, advice and downloadable checklists which can used for preparation and planning, says Hayley van Leeuwen, GNS Director of Global Marketing and Product.

“GNS is more than just a reseller of navigational products. Our team of qualified mariners and experts are dedicated to helping owners get the most from the navigation technology they use and to advise on the best solutions to meet their operational needs. Our programme of support to mariners is focused around the need to help them maintain compliance as well as the cost-effective use of digital navigation.”

Through its programme of free workshops for shipping companies, GNS has already helped numerous shipowners and managers understand how to use digital navigation to save time and reducing administration, as well as ensure they are fully compliant with changing regulations.

The Tokyo and Paris MoUs last conducted a joint CIC on safety of navigation in 2008, since when regulations for navigation equipment have evolved alongside the systems themselves. In addition to addressing ECDIS competence, the CIC will include inspections on BNWAS, AIS, VDR and steering, with an ultimate penalty of detention for non-compliance.
